SOLO SHOW : The Paper: Organised Art Fair
COOP’s first event, SOLO SHOW (2019), is an exhibition involving 15 participating art spaces. Launched in 2018, the project brings together exhibition venues of different backgrounds to encourage collaboration and to develop a distinct, well-curated art market.
This edition presents works in a compact space using a streamlined system, focusing on the artworks made with paper-based media. By adopting an economical scale and format, the exhibition introduces accessible approaches to art making and display. With relatively reasonable prices, the works offer a practical entry point for the first-time buyers and visitors interested in starting an art collection. Centered on drawing, alongside collage and three-dimensional works, the exhibition showcases a wide range of paper-based practices that remain high in quality and artistic value despite the use of modest materials.
For the fair, Sanghoon Ahn photographed a completed mural at the exhibition site, then erased the original wall painting with white paint. He printed the photograph, framed it, and displayed it on the now-erased wall. Through this process, he sought to question what constitutes the image of a work, and under what conditions originality and site-specificity in painting are formed.
