Since its foundation in 2004, gallerychosun has introduced the work of artists who shape important currents in the Korean art scene. Now in its 21st year, the gallery continues to reflect on its evolving voice, selecting and introducing artists. gallerychosun works with artists who explore the expansiveness of their chosen media and strive to keep art connected to society. The gallery respects and supports the beauty of their artistic worlds, believing that such efforts leave meaningful traces in both art and society, and help sustain the inherently fragile realm of art.

gallerychosun, founded in 2004 by the second-generation director of Korea’s second-oldest gallery, Chosun art gallery (est. 1971), focuses on fostering the growth of contemporary artists and practices. Since its foundation, it has participated in international art fairs such as Art Basel Miami and Art Cologne, playing a key role in introducing Korean contemporary art to the global stage.

The gallery has also contributed to the growth of the Korean art market by leading the publication of guidebooks on gallery management and art distribution, and by helping to systematize distribution practices through initiatives such as the introduction of standard contracts for the art industry.

In 2015, with the addition of the third generation to its leadership, gallerychosun embarked on a new phase of transformation. It co-organised the Soloshow project, exploring experimental approaches to art distribution and launched a long term documentation project that records the working processes of its artists; an endeavor that has become a valuable archive of Korean contemporary art beyond mere promotional content.

gallerychosun continues to expand its reach through participation in Frieze Seoul, international exchange exhibitions, and digital art projects, striving to highlight and share the artistic visions of the artists it represents.

  • Vision Act is a movement to reach the future we envision.

We carry out projects with the belief that providing artists with new environments stimulates their growth.

Video Archive documents artists’ exhibition processes, preserving key moments for future generations. As these videos accumulate, viewers will witness the evolution of each artist’s ideas, how these are integrated in their work, and the path toward completion.

Side Story contains interviews with artists conducted after their exhibitions, offering insights into their reflections and experiences beyond the gallery walls.
