‘Lobby’ is an installation that combines a video of a young woman with an architectural model made of stainless steel and acrylic, creating a phygital structure where material and image penetrate each other. Inside the model, instead of a camera, a video plays in which the performer repeatedly speaks about her wounds and hides her face with her hair. The transparent exterior of the lobby building and the gestures of the figure concealing herself inside reveal the boundaries between inside and outside, exposure and concealment, material and data.
In ‘Lobby’, the building serves as the physical body of the video, while the video functions as the emotional interior. Through the sensory structure created by the interaction of these two media, the layers of reality and the virtual do not remain separate but resonate with one another. The work captures the moment when a digital image borrows the surface of material form to create a space for emotion, showing how art in the phygital era invites new experiences of feeling, interiority, reality, and representation.
