Island of Inflection: Lee Ho Jin
Gallery Chosun presents Lee Ho Jin’s solo exhibition 《Island of Inflection》 from August 5 to August 28, 2021. In his second solo show at the gallery, Lee explores shared boundaries, cultural diffusion, and the phenomena of change and transformation.
The exhibition is anchored in the concept of the “inflection point”. In calculus, this term refers to a point on a curve where the graph shifts from concave upward to concave downward, or vice versa. Lee uses this idea symbolically to explore the rebound effects of dramatic shifts and to reflect on the ironies found in transitional moments. He combines this with the notion of the “island”, representing isolated or incomplete relationships, or cycles that inevitably return to their starting point. The fusion of these ideas form the concept of the 《Island of Inflection》.
These gaps and intersections are visualised on the canvas through the deconstruction of existential images and the deliberate arrangement of colour fields. The exhibition features paintings alongside minimalist sculptural installations, offering a glimpse into Lee Ho Jin’s reflections on cyclical eras, the human experience within nature, and the relationships that shape space and life.
