Outlanders_처연하지만 너무나 인간적인: Goun Seo

Gallery Chosun will host Goun Seo’s solo exhibition 《Outlanders》 from November 10 to 24, 2018. Her works capture cold corpses and the process of decay, confronting viewers with life, death, and the pain and fragility that exist in between. In her work, the audience becomes outlanders – outsiders –  observing the suffering of others. 

In Seo’s work, the attitude of the Outlanders appears in two ways: first, when facing the form of death, and again when recognising oneself observing that death. Her focus is not merely on the outsider but on becoming aware of oneself as an outsider and navigating the process of transcending those limits.

This theme is also evident in her depiction of corpses decaying over time. While her work seems to evoke harsh realities such as illness, poverty, and tragedy, it also carries a compassionate perspective of the world. Rather than clinging to negativity or narrow mindedness, Seo confronts situations with awareness and acceptance. Her exhibition invites viewers to see how her message, aimed at the darkest subjects, is conveyed through her work.
