Demoli-Creation: Byun Si Jae
Obsession with Green
Green space is a symbol of hope.
It is a space we pass through and come to hold hope.
It is a space that creates hope.
I want to build a place where hope can be reborn
I want to create a shelter for people worn down by the harsh pace of modern life.
Or perhaps it is not a shelter for them, but for myself.
In an unstable reality, I want a place where I can face what comes, push through it, and still hide for a moment to breathe. Maybe that is why I imagine this space as a house built from a construction sight.
Memories of Fences
Fences feel familiar to me
They lined my paths as I moved from place to place.
They stayed beside me when I changed neighbourhoods and when I went to school.
Looking at the history of these fences, I began to wonder about what happens behind them. I imagine a surgery taking place inside. A doctor cuts into the ground as if using scissors. The inside of the earth becomes like the inside of a human body.
Inside that body are lungs that have stopped breathing. When the lungs are opened, small gears are turning within. A single bird is caught between the gears. The doctor carefully removes the bird. The lungs begin to work again. New buildings rise, and the bird regains its freedom.
