HYE KYOUNG KWON

권혜경은 최근 임신과 출산, 육아 경험을 토대로 시작한 프로젝트 "MOTHER ZONE"을 통해, 한국 사회에서 출산과 양육하는 여성들의 삶에 주목하며 사회 각각의 구성원으로부터 받는 차별과 불평등, 자아실현과 육아 사이의 갈등, 경력 단절, 고립 등의 이야기를, 회화를 통해 다루고 있다. 그는 지극히 개인적인 이야기로부터 정치적이며, 사회적 서사를 반영하며 단순한 묘사를 넘어, 다양한 대화를 촉발하고 새로운 관점을 제공하며 연대감을 느끼고자 한다. 최근 개인전으로《빠빠이 혜경》(갤러리 조선 서울, 2023)이 있으며 2014년 자를란트주 장학생(아카데미 데어 큔스테 베를린, 독일)에 선정되었고 화이트블럭 천안창작촌(2021-23) 등 레지던시 프로그램에 참여하였다.

Hye Kyoung Kwon, through her project "MOTHER ZONE," inspired by her profound journey through maternity, focuses on the nuanced lives of women experiencing pregnancy, childbirth, and parenting in Korean society. Her paintings vividly explore workplace discrimination, societal inequality, the delicate balance between self-realization and parenting, career disruption, and isolation. She aims to reflect deep political and social narratives, transcending mere depictions to spark diverse conversations, offers new perspectives, and build solidarity among women facing the multifaceted challenges of motherhood. Her resilience in her personal and artistic journey culminated in her recent solo exhibition, "Bye Bye Hye Kyoung" (Gallery Chosun, Seoul, 2023). A recipient of a fellowship in Saarland in 2014 (Akademie der Künste, Berlin, Germany), Kwon has also enriched her artistic perspective through residencies, including the White Block in Cheonan (2021-23).
