Frieze Seoul 2024: Galleries

Overview

Gallery Chosun participates in Frieze Seoul 2024 for the first time, presenting works by Min Sung-Hong, Ahn Sang-Hoon, and Jeong Jeong-Ju. Under the keyword “symptoms of memory loss,” the presentation brings together three artists who employ distinct forms and languages, ranging from objects and painting to media art.

Rather than using “amnesia” as a single proper term, the concept of this presentation unfolds through a sequence of common nouns: “memory,” “loss,” and “symptom.” By placing these universally applicable words alongside one another, rather than referring to a single fixed condition, the distinct artistic languages of the three artists intersect and overlap across their respective worlds.

The word “symptom” is often associated with pathological conditions and tends to carry negative connotations. Yet a symptom is also one of the most direct manifestations through which the body reveals its condition without deception. It functions as both a signal and an alarm, allowing us to examine our current state and position.
